The latest data shows that Atlanta added 75,000 people in the past year, but its rank dropped from 6th to 8th, now behind Miami and Washington, D.C.

While its rank slipped, Atlanta is still a top contender in the South with a strong economy, affordable living, and continues to draw new residents and investors.

Here’s how the other cities stack up:

  • New York: 19.5 million, holding the top spot easily.
  • Los Angeles: 12.7 million, still shining with its sunshine and beaches.
  • Chicago: 9 million, standing strong as the Windy City.
  • Dallas & Houston: Texas duo, seeing rapid growth with populations of 6.7 million and 6.9 million.
  • Miami: Beaches and nightlife pushing its population up.
  • Washington, D.C.: The policy powerhouse, boosted by immigration.

Even though Atlanta dropped a couple of spots, its appeal and influence are far from fading! Plus, it’s backed by Coca-Cola, CNN, and the Atlanta Hawks—who else can claim that?
